rG blowin a hoolie all night, so much so that it kept me awake, so I got up early and got watched windsurf DVD's for a while before getting to the beach for first light.

Would you believe, it, as soon as the sun came up, the wind dropped to nothing..well, about 8 knots. So, I went for a walk along the beach. When I got back there was a dead onshore 14 knots wind blowing, so I decided to rig my Fanatic Cross with abig fin and a 6.3m sail. Ben came along as I was doing so and said he might sail from the estuary later, but then the wind picked up a little more (18 knots) so he decided he might come back and sail from the seafront.

However, when I got on the water the wind dropped again and I barely got going, let alone made any ground upwind. I gave up for a while and just sat in the sunshine watching the coastguard helicoptor and Lifeboat resuce someone from a boat a mile or so out to sea.

At around high tide, the wind again picked up and had this time swung NW a little, so I worked my way upwind (North) along the beach for a bit, to get away from the groynes, before making a concerted effort to get out through the whitewater. This time I was straight onto the plane, nicely powered up and able to fly upwind. The sea was fairly big by now, with some good four foot waves and big walls of whuitewater to negotiate. Easily the biggest seas I've ever used my Cross in, but it handled them well and the extra volume helped it to just float up and over the walls of whitewater. I then did a few BIG jumps off the steeper waves out the back, before once again heading upwind and out to sea. Coming back in was just mad, as I was chased by walls of whitewater. I did manage to get a few turns in on the open face of a few waves, but most of the time it was just walls of whitewater!. I had a few more runs in and out through the surf, but mainly stayed out the back playing on the big swells.

So, it turned out to be a pretty good session i the end and well worth the wait. Just a shame I was out there all on my own again. The weather should get a mention too as it was warm and sunny. Warmer and sunnier than mnmay July days, and its still January!!
